Maddie and Chris came to Colorado with a vision for their engagement photos: wide-open spaces, mountain views, and a little bit of western charm.

Originally from Kansas, these two are happiest outdoors. Between fishing, spending time with family, and renovating the house they recently bought on a small lake, a laid-back session surrounded by nature felt like the perfect fit. When Maddie told me they loved the Colorado mountains, I knew Cheyenne Mountain State Park would give us exactly what we were looking for.

Their outfits fit the setting perfectly, too. Maddie wore a flowing white lace dress with boots, while Chris kept things classic with light-wash denim, a white shirt, and boots. Together, it gave their engagement photos that subtle western feel while still keeping everything timeless.

We spent the evening wandering through open fields with Cheyenne Mountain towering behind us, focusing on candid moments, movement, and plenty of laughter. Maddie and Chris wanted their gallery to feel authentic, joyful, and romantic—and their easygoing connection made that pretty effortless to capture.

As the evening went on, the soft mountain light turned into a beautiful Colorado sunset. We mixed intimate close-ups with wide landscape photos, giving them plenty of images that showed off the scenery while still keeping their relationship at the center of it all.

That's one of the reasons I love Cheyenne Mountain State Park engagement sessions. You get open meadows, pine trees, mountain views, and that unmistakable Colorado feeling without traveling far from Colorado Springs. It's especially perfect for couples who want their engagement photos to feel outdoorsy, relaxed, and a little adventurous.

Maddie told me she wanted these photos to be something they could look back on years from now and remember not just what the mountains looked like, but how happy and in love they felt during this season of their lives.

And really, that's what engagement photos are all about.

If you're planning your own Colorado Springs engagement session and looking for a photographer, I'd love to help you create photos that feel natural, joyful, and completely true to the two of you.
